India’s defence manufacturing sector has achieved a major milestone with Defsys inaugurating a new advanced aerostructure facility in Bengaluru to manufacture external fuel drop tanks for a globally recognised fighter aircraft platform.
Led by Defsys’ Bengaluru team under the guidance of Manish Yadav, DGM of Operations and Unit Head, the new facility marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence self-reliance and expanding the country’s role in global aerospace supply chains.
The Bengaluru plant is designed to support complete manufacturing operations, from processing raw aerospace materials to producing finished aerostructure components. The facility can handle materials including aluminium sheets, plates, ingots, billets, rods and pipes, transforming them into precision-engineered structural parts required for advanced fuel tank assemblies.
With this capability, Defsys is moving beyond its traditional role as an engineering solutions provider and emerging as a key aerospace component manufacturer capable of meeting strict international quality, safety and performance standards.
The facility also combines advanced mechanical and electrical integration capabilities. After fabrication and welding of structural sections, specialised teams install internal electrical systems and wire harnesses. Each fuel tank undergoes detailed functional and electrical testing to ensure reliability and compliance with aerospace requirements.
The completed fuel drop tanks will be certified for aircraft deployment and supplied to France-based Dassault Aviation, supporting global defence manufacturing requirements.
The new facility highlights the growing strength of India’s private defence sector under the Make in India initiative. By becoming part of the supply chain for advanced military aircraft, Defsys is showcasing India’s engineering capabilities and strengthening the country’s position as a global hub for aerospace manufacturing and defence collaboration.
