The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is looking to expand its partnership with Kerala by investing in more infrastructure and development projects across the state. A delegation from the bank recently met Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to discuss future investment opportunities.

During the meeting, AIIB said it wants to support Kerala’s long-term development by funding projects that focus on sustainable growth. The bank is already involved in several major projects in the state, including Kochi Metro Phase II (Pink Line), the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project, the Resilient Kerala Programme, and the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP-2).
The discussions focused on areas where AIIB and Kerala share common goals, such as green infrastructure, climate resilience, better transport, and technology-driven development. The bank also showed interest in supporting sectors like water management, healthcare, education, renewable energy, roads, and urban development.
A key topic of discussion was Mission Samudra, Kerala’s proposed blue economy initiative. The project aims to improve fisheries, ports, inland waterways, coastal tourism, maritime logistics, and skill development. AIIB expressed its willingness to explore investment opportunities in these areas.
The delegation also discussed strengthening Kerala’s water security through better irrigation systems, improved water management, dam safety, and flood protection. AIIB is considering further investments based on the ongoing Resilient Kerala Programme and DRIP-2.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said Kerala remains committed to sustainable and climate-friendly development. He welcomed AIIB’s interest in supporting projects that improve infrastructure and public services across the state.
Both Kerala and AIIB agreed to continue discussions in the coming months to identify priority projects and prepare investment proposals. Future projects will be selected based on the state’s development needs and government approval processes.
