Arattai, the messaging and VoIP calling platform developed by Indian SaaS company Zoho, has introduced an optional Aadhaar-enabled identity verification feature to strengthen security and reduce online fraud.

The new verification layer allows users to receive messages only from verified accounts, helping them block unwanted spam and reduce risks linked to fake identities and digital impersonation.
The feature will be available across Arattai’s mobile applications on iOS and Android, as well as its desktop version for Windows. Zoho has clarified that the platform will not store users’ Aadhaar details as part of the verification process.
Jeri John, Global Product Head of Arattai, said the messaging industry is facing growing challenges due to impersonation and digital fraud. He added that the optional Aadhaar verification system aims to create a more trusted communication environment without affecting user convenience.
Arattai Expands Focus on Secure Messaging
The launch comes amid increasing attention on messaging platform security and privacy in India. Meta-owned WhatsApp has also been under government scrutiny following its plans to introduce usernames on the platform.
Launched in 2021, Arattai has been developed entirely in India and aims to become a homegrown alternative to global messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal.
The platform supports 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Gujarati. Zoho said Arattai is built on its own full-stack infrastructure, ensuring that chats, files, and user connections remain within a secure local data ecosystem.
New Privacy Features Added
Along with Aadhaar verification, Arattai has introduced several privacy-focused features to improve user protection.
The platform now supports end-to-end encryption for individual chats and broadcasts, along with encrypted chat backups for Google Drive and iCloud.
Other security features include hiding phone numbers while joining public groups, virtual waiting rooms for meetings, and better control over who can access private conversations and groups.
With these updates, Arattai aims to strengthen its position as an Indian-built messaging platform focused on privacy, security, and user trust.
