SpiceJet has reduced its flight operations by 44%, scaling down its network as it navigates ongoing operational and financial challenges. The airline has returned several leased aircraft to lessors, leading to a significant reduction in available capacity and forcing it to rationalise routes across its domestic and international network.

According to the airline, the capacity reduction is part of a temporary restructuring plan aimed at stabilising operations and improving fleet utilisation. By operating fewer flights with available aircraft, SpiceJet hopes to enhance schedule reliability while managing costs more effectively. The move comes after months of financial pressures, delayed aircraft inductions and fleet constraints.
Despite the sharp reduction in services, SpiceJet has said it expects to begin expanding its network again from October. The airline plans to induct additional leased aircraft into its fleet in the coming months, which is expected to help restore frequencies and improve connectivity on key routes.
The latest downsizing reflects the broader challenges faced by the low-cost carrier as it works to rebuild its operations in an increasingly competitive aviation market. While rivals continue to expand their fleets and networks, SpiceJet is focusing on operational stability and financial recovery before returning to growth.
