Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are set to jointly inaugurate Maruti Suzuki India’s fourth passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda in Haryana on Thursday. The launch marks a significant milestone in the expanding economic and industrial collaboration between India and Japan while reinforcing India’s ambitions to emerge as a global manufacturing powerhouse.

One of the World’s Largest Vehicle Production Facilities
Developed across nearly 800 acres, the Kharkhoda plant includes an integrated supplier ecosystem and has been designed to become one of the largest automobile manufacturing hubs globally. Once the facility reaches full operational capacity, it will be capable of producing up to 10 lakh vehicles annually, bringing Maruti Suzuki closer to its long-term production target of 40 lakh vehicles every year.
₹35,000 Crore Investment to Create Thousands of Jobs
The project represents a total investment of approximately ₹35,000 crore, including investments in the supplier network surrounding the facility. According to the company, the new manufacturing complex is expected to generate more than 21,000 direct employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the regional economy and India’s automotive sector.
Industry 5.0 Technologies at the Core
The Kharkhoda plant has been built around Maruti Suzuki’s Suzuki Smart Factory concept, integrating advanced Industry 5.0 manufacturing technologies. Artificial intelligence-powered collaborative robots, commonly known as cobots, will work alongside human operators to enhance production efficiency, improve precision, and streamline manufacturing processes.
Strong Focus on Sustainability
Environmental sustainability has been a central focus in the development of the new facility. The plant will operate entirely on renewable electricity while incorporating a Zero Liquid Discharge manufacturing system and complete water recycling. Maruti Suzuki also plans to commission a biogas plant during FY27 and install an in-house solar power facility with a capacity of up to 70 MW. Additionally, an in-plant railway siding has been developed to promote cleaner and more efficient logistics.
Supporting India’s Global Manufacturing Vision
Maruti Suzuki said the Kharkhoda facility will significantly strengthen its manufacturing footprint in India while enhancing export-oriented production. The company believes the plant aligns closely with the government’s Make in India and Make for the World initiatives by expanding India’s role as a global automotive production and export hub.
Part of the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum
The inauguration will take place alongside the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in New Delhi, highlighting the growing strategic and industrial partnership between the two nations. The launch is expected to further deepen bilateral cooperation in manufacturing, technology, investment, and sustainable industrial development.
