Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has signed a definitive agreement with Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), the terminal operating arm of the MSC Group, under which TiL will acquire a 49% stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited. The transaction values the port at $2.85 billion, with TiL investing $1.397 billion for its stake. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals.
The agreement marks the largest foreign private investment in Indian port infrastructure and represents the third major collaboration between APSEZ and MSC after their successful partnerships at Mundra and Ennore ports. According to APSEZ, the partnership will provide greater cargo visibility, faster traffic growth and stronger access to key international shipping routes.

Commissioned in December 2024, Vizhinjam is India’s first deep-draft mega transshipment port. It currently has an annual handling capacity of 1.6 million TEUs, which is being expanded 3.5 times to 5.7 million TEUs by December 2028. Strategically located just 10 nautical miles from the busy East-West shipping route, the port is equipped with fully automated cargo handling systems and AI-enabled vessel traffic management technology.
The port has recorded rapid growth since commencing operations. It became the fastest Indian port to cross 1 million TEUs, surpassed 2 million TEUs within 18 months, and welcomed its 1,000th commercial vessel in June 2026. It has also handled over 70 ultra-large container vessels, underlining its emergence as a key global transshipment hub.
