Indian Railways now offers a dedicated pet box facility on Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, enabling passengers to travel with pets such as dogs in a secure enclosure designed specifically for animals. The service is currently available through an offline booking process.

To book the facility, passengers must have a confirmed train ticket and visit the parcel or luggage office at their boarding station at least three hours before departure. Online booking for the pet box is not yet available.
Pet owners are required to submit a recent veterinary fitness certificate, valid vaccination records and other necessary documents. Charges are generally calculated based on the pet’s weight, and a luggage receipt is issued after payment.
Pets travel in a dedicated enclosed pet box located at either end of the train rather than inside passenger cabins. The facility includes holders for food and water, though travellers are advised to check availability for their specific route before travel.
The initiative expands pet-friendly travel options on Indian Railways and is one of the new features introduced with the Vande Bharat Sleeper service, which focuses on providing a more comfortable long-distance travel experience.
