Zydus Lifesciences has partnered with Sunshine Healthcare Lanka to form a 50:50 joint venture, Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences, with a total investment commitment of over $20 million to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka.

The new plant will be built at the Horana Export Processing Zone and is expected to strengthen local pharmaceutical manufacturing, reduce Sri Lanka’s dependence on imported medicines and improve access to high-quality healthcare products.
The partnership combines Zydus’ global pharmaceutical manufacturing expertise with Sunshine Healthcare Lanka’s strong domestic distribution network and market presence. The venture will also support technology transfer, create skilled jobs and enhance the country’s healthcare supply chain.
The facility will primarily manufacture medicines for Sri Lanka’s retail market while complying with the country’s regulatory standards. The project aligns with Sri Lanka’s efforts to expand domestic pharmaceutical production and improve healthcare resilience.
For Zydus, the joint venture strengthens its footprint in South Asia and supports its strategy of expanding manufacturing capabilities in emerging international markets through strategic local partnerships.
