China has expressed its readiness to work closely with India to strengthen mutual trust, address concerns, and advance bilateral relations. The statement came a day after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated Beijing’s commitment to taking the relationship forward.

Focus on Cooperation and Managing Differences
Speaking on June 24, 2026, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said both countries should implement the understandings reached by their leaders and continue efforts to build confidence. He emphasized the need to manage sensitive issues carefully, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintain the positive momentum in India-China relations.
According to Lin, stronger collaboration between the two Asian powers would also support their respective modernization goals and contribute to regional stability.
BRICS Cooperation Takes Centre Stage
The remarks followed Wang Yi’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi after the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting held in New Delhi on June 22-23. During the interaction, both sides discussed strengthening cooperation within the BRICS framework.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said Wang Yi highlighted the importance of China and India, as the world’s two largest developing nations, playing a leading role in promoting unity, self-reliance, and cooperation among countries of the Global South.
China Backs India’s BRICS Leadership
Ambassador Xu stated that China would continue supporting India in its role as the rotating chair of BRICS and work together to ensure meaningful progress in the grouping’s initiatives.
He added that Wang Yi had conveyed China’s willingness to implement the key agreements reached by the leaders of both countries and further deepen engagement across multiple sectors.
Call to Revive Dialogue Mechanisms
Wang Yi also stressed the importance of accelerating the resumption of dialogue mechanisms that had remained stalled in recent years. The Chinese side believes regular communication and institutional engagement will help address challenges and strengthen overall ties.
Modi Reaffirms Support for BRICS Cooperation
According to the Chinese readout of the meeting, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He also expressed support for enhanced cooperation under the BRICS framework, signaling continued engagement between the two countries on multilateral platforms.
