The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has conducted an inspection of the link ramps connecting Vizhinjam Port to NH-66, reviewing traffic movement and safety arrangements at the critical junction. During the visit, officials proposed installing a traffic signal where the port link road merges with the national highway.
The proposal comes as Vizhinjam Port prepares for increasing cargo traffic, making efficient and safe road connectivity a key priority. Authorities believe a signalized junction could help regulate vehicle movement and reduce congestion risks.

The temporary connectivity road linking the port to NH-66 was developed to facilitate cargo movement while long-term infrastructure solutions are being planned. NHAI had earlier approved interim road connectivity measures to support port operations.
A permanent cloverleaf interchange connecting the port road and NH-66 is also being pursued as a long-term solution to accommodate growing freight traffic and improve traffic flow.
The latest inspection underscores the importance of robust road infrastructure for Vizhinjam Port, which is expected to play a major role in India’s maritime and logistics ecosystem in the coming years.
