Brazilian aerospace major Embraer has announced plans to establish a military aircraft manufacturing facility in India if it secures a contract to supply medium transport aircraft to the Indian armed forces. The proposed unit would be Embraer’s only military aircraft production facility outside São Paulo, Brazil.

The company is pitching its C-390 Millennium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force’s medium transport aircraft requirement, a programme expected to involve a large number of aircraft over the coming years.
Embraer said the project would support India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by creating a domestic aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, generating skilled jobs, strengthening local supply chains, and enabling technology transfer.
The Brazilian manufacturer has already partnered with Indian companies including Mahindra and has announced collaborations aimed at local production, maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities for the C-390 platform in India.
If selected, India could emerge as a regional manufacturing and support hub for Embraer’s military transport aircraft, significantly boosting the country’s aerospace and defence manufacturing ambitions.
