The Central Government has granted administrative and technical approval worth ₹1,663.15 crore for the first phase of the Kollam-Theni National Highway (NH-183) development project, marking a major infrastructure boost for Kerala. The approval covers a 54.37-km stretch from Kadavoor Bypass Junction in Kollam to Anjilimoodu near Chengannur.

The project aims to transform the existing highway into a modern four-lane corridor, improving connectivity between Kerala and Tamil Nadu while reducing travel time and enhancing road safety.
According to project details, the development will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The upgraded corridor is expected to benefit residents and businesses across central Travancore, including regions such as Kunnathur, Charummoodu, and Chengannur, while strengthening trade, logistics, and tourism connectivity.
The project is being seen as a significant step toward improving Kerala’s highway infrastructure and supporting economic growth through better regional connectivity.
