Indian Railways has highlighted a series of major milestones achieved over the last 12 years, showcasing significant progress in connectivity, infrastructure and modernization. The transformation includes iconic engineering projects, network expansion and the introduction of next-generation trains.

One of the standout achievements is the Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, recognized as the world’s highest railway arch bridge. The structure has become a symbol of India’s engineering capabilities and has strengthened connectivity in the region.
Railways has also reached 99.6% electrification of its broad-gauge network as of March 2026, marking a major step toward cleaner and more efficient transportation. The electrified network supports faster operations while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Another key development has been the expansion of Vande Bharat services, including the introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains designed for long-distance overnight travel. These trains represent India’s growing capabilities in modern rail technology and passenger comfort.
With thousands of trains operating daily, expanded connectivity, modern stations and continued infrastructure investment, Indian Railways remains one of the country’s most important engines of economic growth and mobility.
