Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited is planning a major expansion with a proposed ₹29,000 crore shipbuilding project in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of the largest maritime infrastructure investments under consideration in the country.

The project is expected to include advanced shipbuilding facilities, repair infrastructure, and supporting maritime ecosystems aimed at strengthening India’s position as a global shipbuilding destination.

Mazagon Dock, one of India’s leading defence shipyards, has played a crucial role in constructing warships, submarines, and other strategic naval assets for the Indian Navy.

The proposed Andhra Pradesh facility could significantly enhance the company’s production capacity and support both defence and commercial shipbuilding opportunities. It also aligns with India’s broader vision of boosting indigenous manufacturing and maritime capabilities.

Industry observers believe the project could generate substantial employment opportunities, attract ancillary industries, and strengthen the state’s position as a maritime and industrial hub.

The initiative comes at a time when India is increasing investments in naval modernization, port infrastructure, and domestic manufacturing under the Make in India programme.

If approved and implemented, the project could become a landmark development for India’s shipbuilding sector and further reinforce the country’s ambitions in the global maritime economy.
