Tamil Nadu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for three large-scale projects worth a combined ₹18,600 crore, expected to generate around 8,200 jobs across the state.

Chief Minister V Joseph Vijay witnessed the signing of the agreement on Thursday and held discussions with L&T Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan at the Secretariat. The Chief Minister appreciated the company’s continued investments in the state and its role in supporting industrial growth.
Three key projects across Tamil Nadu
The agreement covers investments in data infrastructure, manufacturing, and maritime sectors:
The largest project is a data centre expansion in Kancheepuram district with an investment of ₹15,000 crore, which is expected to create about 500 jobs.
In Coimbatore, L&T will set up an electronics and electronic systems manufacturing facility with an investment of ₹2,500 crore, generating nearly 2,000 jobs.
The third project involves expanding L&T’s shipbuilding facility at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district with an investment of ₹1,100 crore. This is projected to create around 5,700 jobs.
Boost to industrial growth and long-term vision
The state government said the projects align with its broader goal of transforming Tamil Nadu into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036. Officials said the investments will strengthen digital infrastructure, support artificial intelligence applications, and expand the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The Kattupalli expansion is also expected to support infrastructure development for offshore wind energy construction, along with direct and indirect employment opportunities for the youth.
Government assurance and industry support
The Chief Minister assured full cooperation from the state government for the projects and future expansion plans. Officials described the agreement as a key step in strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading industrial destination.
This is the first major industrial MoU signed after the current government assumed office.
Officials present at the event
The signing event was attended by Industries Minister S Keerthana, Chief Secretary M Vaikumar, Additional Chief Secretary V Vijayakumar, Guidance Tamil Nadu MD and CEO P Alarmel Mangai, along with senior government officials and L&T representatives.
