Kochi has become home to South India’s first green hydrogen refuelling station, marking a major milestone in India’s transition toward clean and sustainable mobility solutions. The project represents a significant advancement in the country’s hydrogen energy infrastructure and future transportation ecosystem.

The station has been established to support hydrogen-powered vehicles using green hydrogen produced through renewable energy sources, making it a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels. Green hydrogen is increasingly being viewed as a critical component in achieving long-term carbon reduction and energy transition goals worldwide.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position the country as a global hub for green hydrogen production, utilisation, and export. Experts believe hydrogen fuel could play an important role in decarbonising sectors such as transportation, heavy industry, and logistics.
Industry observers say the launch of the refuelling station in Kochi highlights Kerala’s growing focus on sustainable infrastructure and next-generation energy technologies. The project could also encourage wider adoption of hydrogen-powered mobility solutions across India in the coming years.
As countries worldwide race to build cleaner energy ecosystems, India is rapidly expanding investments in renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, electric mobility, and low-carbon infrastructure to meet future climate and energy demands.
