Amazon has announced a major expansion of its Ashray network, planning to scale up dedicated rest facilities for delivery associates across India amid rising heatwave concerns.

The company said it will expand Ashray centres to 250 locations this year across cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. Around 50 new centres are expected to be launched by the end of May, adding to the existing network of over 100 centres spread across 16 cities.
The move comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of above-normal temperatures between May and June, with an increased likelihood of heatwave conditions in several parts of the country, including central, eastern and northwestern regions.
Ashray centres are designed as rest stops for delivery drivers, including those not working for Amazon. These facilities provide air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, clean washrooms, mobile charging points and basic first aid, offering workers a place to recover during long delivery routes.
Amazon said the centres have already recorded more than one million visits from delivery workers in 2025 alone, highlighting strong usage across the delivery ecosystem.
The company also noted that it has introduced mobile Ashray units, which are air-conditioned vans placed along busy delivery routes. These units allow workers to access hydration, rest spaces and charging facilities without needing to travel to fixed centres.
According to Amazon India operations leadership, the initiative is part of a broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore aimed at improving safety, health and wellbeing across its logistics network. The company said the expansion reflects a continued focus on worker comfort, especially during extreme weather conditions.
Alongside this announcement, Amazon India also highlighted recent changes in its digital services, including the integration of streaming platforms to expand content access for users.
