Stellantis India has achieved a major production milestone with the rollout of its 50,000th vehicle from its advanced manufacturing facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The achievement marks a key step in the company’s expansion and growing presence in the Indian automotive sector.

India-developed platform powering global reach
A major driver behind this success is the Smart Car platform, designed and developed in India by Stellantis’ local research and development teams. The platform has not only supported vehicles built for the Indian market but has also been adapted for global use across Europe, South America, Asia, and other international regions.
Vehicles produced at the Thiruvallur plant are exported to markets including Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a strong export-oriented automotive hub and strengthening India’s position in global vehicle manufacturing.
Strong industrial and employment impact
Since beginning operations, the Thiruvallur facility has contributed significantly to the regional economy. It has created over 1,100 direct jobs and supported thousands of indirect employment opportunities across suppliers, logistics, and allied industries around Chennai.
The plant has also helped build a strong local vendor ecosystem, aligning with broader industrial development goals and supporting manufacturing-led growth in the state.
Focus on quality and sustainable manufacturing
The facility continues to operate with a strong emphasis on quality, efficiency, and localisation, supported by advanced manufacturing systems and sustainable production practices aligned with India’s “Make in India” initiative.
Leadership perspective
Speaking on the milestone, Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, said the achievement reflects the strength of the company’s workforce, supplier network, dealer ecosystem, and customer trust. He also highlighted the importance of Tamil Nadu’s supportive industrial environment and skilled talent pool in enabling this growth.
Future expansion plans
Building on this milestone, Stellantis India aims to further scale production, increase export volumes, and introduce globally competitive vehicles from its Indian operations. The Thiruvallur plant will continue to play a central role in supporting the company’s future mobility and manufacturing ambitions.
