Indian-origin tech leader Srinivas Narayanan has announced his decision to leave OpenAI after a three-year stint, marking the exit of a key figure in the company’s enterprise AI division.
Narayanan, who served as the Chief Technology Officer for B2B applications, said he will step down next week after what he described as “three incredible years” at the company.

He originally joined OpenAI as Vice President of Engineering before rising to lead enterprise-focused AI initiatives, contributing to the rapid growth of products like ChatGPT.
In a personal note, Narayanan revealed that he plans to return to India to spend “much-needed time” with his ageing parents before deciding his next professional move.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, he has had a long career in the global tech ecosystem, including early roles at IBM and leadership positions in Silicon Valley.
His departure comes at a time when OpenAI is expanding its enterprise and AI offerings globally, making his exit significant for the company’s leadership structure.
Beyond business, his decision has drawn attention for its personal dimension, reflecting how even top tech executives are increasingly valuing family time and life priorities alongside demanding careers.
