Aviation turbine fuel (ATF), commonly known as jet fuel, has crossed the ₹2 lakh per kilolitre mark for the first time in India, marking a historic surge in fuel prices.
In Delhi, ATF prices have risen sharply to around ₹2,07,341 per kilolitre, more than doubling from previous levels, reflecting a steep increase of over 100%.

The surge has been largely driven by rising global crude oil prices, linked to escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted supply chains and pushed energy costs higher.
Fuel accounts for nearly 40% of an airline’s operating costs, and this sharp increase is expected to significantly impact the aviation sector, putting pressure on airlines’ margins.
As a result, airfares are likely to rise, with airlines expected to pass on the increased fuel costs to passengers in the coming weeks.
Additionally, airlines are already facing operational challenges such as longer flight routes due to airspace restrictions, further increasing fuel consumption and overall costs.
With global oil prices remaining volatile, the aviation industry may continue to face uncertainty and cost pressures in the near term.
