Oor Cabs, a Tamil Nadu-based electric auto-rickshaw mobility platform, has secured ₹25 crore in funding from the Green Climate Fund to support the expansion of its electric auto fleet across tier-II cities in India. The funding underscores growing global and domestic investment interest in clean transport solutions and climate-focused mobility models.
The infusion of capital will enable Oor Cabs to deploy additional electric auto-rickshaws in urban and peri-urban areas, strengthen charging infrastructure, support driver acquisition and training, and enhance operational capabilities. By transitioning to electric vehicles, the platform aims to reduce carbon emissions, lower operating costs for drivers, and provide commuters with affordable, environmentally friendly travel options.

Tier-II cities, with rapidly growing populations and transportation demand, present significant opportunities for electrified mobility. The Green Climate Fund support will accelerate Oor Cabs’ ability to scale in these markets, complementing India’s broader goals under national EV mandates and climate commitments.
The initiative reflects a growing trend of sustainable mobility projects attracting climate finance, as stakeholders seek to balance urban growth with environmental responsibility. Oor Cabs’ expansion is expected to benefit local economies, contribute to cleaner air quality and showcase scalable models for electric public transport solutions in mid-sized cities across India.
