As 2025 draws to a close, the India Women’s Cricket team is in the midst of a five-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka. After commanding victories in the first two games in Vizag, the Women in Blue have taken a 2-0 lead. With three matches still to be played in Kerala, the team is expected to continue their dominance and cap off the year on a high note.

A Landmark Year for India Women’s Cricket
Regardless of how the T20I series concludes, 2025 has already become historic for India Women’s cricket. The year was marked by growth, consistency, and belief, with three World Cup titles at different levels, cementing India’s position on the global stage.
ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 – Champions
The year began on a high as India defended their ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup title, winning the tournament in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2. Under coach Nooshin Al Khadeer, the young team remained unbeaten, with standout performances from Niki Prasad, G Kamalini, G Trisha, and Vaishnavi Sharma.
ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 – Champions
The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, was the highlight of the year. India entered with strong momentum after series wins in Sri Lanka and England. Despite a 1-2 loss to Australia at home, they secured their first home ODI victory against the Aussies in 18 years.
India began their World Cup campaign with wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan but faced setbacks against South Africa, Australia, and England. A must-win victory over New Zealand in Navi Mumbai secured a semi-final berth, while the match against Bangladesh was washed out.
In the semi-final on October 30, Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 127, supported by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 89, as India chased a record 339-run target against Australia. In the final on November 2, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to claim their maiden ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title. Shafali Verma starred with 87 runs and two wickets, earning the Player of the Match award. The tournament also saw record-breaking crowds, including a sold-out final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium with around 45,000 spectators.
Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 – Champions
India continued its dominance in women’s cricket by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from November 11 to 23. Remaining unbeaten, India defeated Nepal in the final in Colombo, marking a milestone for visually impaired women’s cricket.
Pay Rise in Domestic Women’s Cricket
Following the ODI World Cup victory, the BCCI rewarded the team with INR 51 crore and approved a 2.5-fold hike in domestic match fees. Senior women players in domestic 50-over matches now earn INR 50,000 per match, with reserves receiving INR 25,000. In T20s, players in the XI get INR 25,000, while reserves earn INR 12,500. Junior players also received significant pay increases, strengthening the domestic structure and encouraging young talent.
Looking Ahead to 2026
In 2026, India will focus on the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England from June 12 to July 5, aiming to replicate their ODI success after a group-stage exit in 2024. Preparations are already underway through the ongoing home T20I series.
Test cricket will also be in focus, with major matches against Australia in Perth (Day-Night Test, March 6-9) and England at Lord’s (July 10-13). After the highs of 2025, expectations for the Indian women’s team are higher than ever.
