Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met Celso Amorim, Chief Advisor to the Brazilian President, and Defence Minister José Mucio Monteiro on Thursday to discuss defence industry collaboration and initiatives aimed at strengthening shared security goals and long-term interoperability.

The Indian Navy spokesperson stated on X that the meeting provided a comprehensive review of expanding India-Brazil defence engagements, focusing on strategic cooperation, joint operational frameworks, training programs, maritime security mechanisms, and enhanced coordination in Maritime Domain Awareness.
The discussions also covered regional and global dynamics, including the South Atlantic, Indo-Pacific, and the role of the Global South, reflecting the shared vision of both nations for a secure, stable, and rules-based order. “These high-level engagements reaffirmed the growing strategic convergence and the mutual commitment to elevate India–Brazil defence cooperation under the spirit of Bridges of Friendship,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Admiral Tripathi met Brazilian Navy Commander Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen to discuss strengthening maritime cooperation. The talks focused on operational engagements, training exchanges, hydrography collaboration, information sharing, and expanding Maritime Domain Awareness. Opportunities for cooperation in defence industry, technology development, innovation, best practices exchange, and capacity building were also explored.
The visit, from December 9–12, aims to consolidate the robust maritime partnership between the Indian and Brazilian navies, considered a key pillar of the broader India–Brazil Strategic Partnership. Admiral Tripathi is scheduled to meet senior Brazilian military leadership, including Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
The agenda includes reviewing ongoing bilateral maritime cooperation, enhancing operational linkages, and exploring new avenues for collaboration, along with visits to naval bases and shipyards. The discussions will focus on shared maritime priorities, naval interoperability, capacity building, and multilateral cooperation, including South-South initiatives. The visit reinforces the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime security, professional exchanges, and capacity building with Brazil, contributing to stability in the global maritime commons.
