Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have joined forces to set up India’s first ship-to-ship Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering facility at Vizhinjam Port in Kerala — the country’s first transshipment hub. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, marks a major step forward in India’s clean energy and maritime transition.

The MoU was exchanged between Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole-time Director of APSEZ, and Rahul Tandon, Business Head, Gas at BPCL, in the presence of senior officials from both companies.
The upcoming facility at Adani Vizhinjam Port will act as a dedicated LNG refueling hub for international vessels moving along the East–West global shipping corridor. This shift from traditional marine fuels to LNG is expected to cut emissions significantly, bringing India’s shipping industry closer to the International Maritime Organisation’s decarbonisation goals.
For APSEZ, the project reinforces its goal of building sustainable, future-ready ports that strengthen India’s logistics backbone while advancing green operations. It also cements Vizhinjam’s position as a key low-carbon maritime hub in the Indian Ocean.
For BPCL, this collaboration expands its footprint in clean energy and LNG infrastructure. Backed by its technical expertise and operational track record, BPCL will lead the fuel supply and gas marketing side of the project.
More than just a business partnership, the APSEZ–BPCL initiative signals a defining moment in India’s journey toward a net-zero future. By integrating innovation with sustainability, the two companies are setting the stage for a cleaner, more responsible global shipping ecosystem.
