The Adani Group is developing a ropeway between Sonprayag and Kedarnath to make the sacred journey to Kedarnath Dham easier and safer for devotees. Chairman Gautam Adani said the 12.9 km project, worth ₹4,081 crore, will cut travel time from a tiring nine-hour trek to just 36 minutes once completed.
Adani called the project a proud moment for the group and said it represents a “bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure.” He expressed hope that the new facility will make the pilgrimage more accessible to lakhs of devotees each year.
Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) received the contract for the project in September from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML). This is AEL’s first ropeway venture, being developed under the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana.
The ropeway will carry up to 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction. Built on a Public-Private Partnership model, it will take six years to complete, after which Adani Enterprises will operate it for 29 years.
The project is being executed by AEL’s Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water (RMRW) division and is expected to significantly improve connectivity to one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
Beyond easier access, the project is also expected to create local jobs and stimulate tourism in the region.
Gautam Adani said the initiative reflects the group’s broader commitment to building infrastructure that strengthens both national connectivity and local livelihoods.
