On June 14, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully carried out a rocket launch test in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. This marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time a satellite payload was launched from the state using a rocket, officials told PTI.

Details of the Launch

The launch occurred at precisely 5:14:33 PM. According to ISRO scientist Abhishek Singh, the rocket ascended to an altitude of 1.1 km, after which a small satellite was deployed. As it descended and reached within five metres of the ground, a parachute was triggered, ensuring the satellite landed safely within a 400-metre radius. Both the 15 kg rocket and the satellite landed without damage.

Collaboration with Thrust Tech India

The test was conducted in partnership with Thrust Tech India Limited. This rocket-based launch is notably different from earlier tests done in Ahmedabad using drones. ISRO confirmed that this was the first successful satellite deployment through a rocket in Uttar Pradesh, setting a new benchmark for future launches in the region.

Future Launches Planned

This successful test has laid the groundwork for upcoming satellite tests expected between October and November. ISRO plans to test nearly 900 youth-built satellites during that phase.

Encouraging Young Minds

Vinod Kumar, Director of Thrust Tech India, highlighted the event’s broader goal—to inspire interest in space technology among children across India.

Axiom-4 Mission Update

ISRO also released an update on the delayed Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). In a post on X, the agency confirmed that the Falcon 9 liquid oxygen leak had been resolved by SpaceX. Coordination is ongoing between Axiom Space, NASA, and ISRO to address an issue related to the ISS Zvezda module. A new launch date for the mission, which includes Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, is currently under discussion.
