The Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate multilingual artificial intelligence technologies into key public-facing railway platforms. The agreement was signed in New Delhi by Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO of BHASHINI, and Shri G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Managing Director of CRIS.

BHASHINI’s Language AI Stack to Power Rail Platforms

The partnership will bring BHASHINI’s advanced language solutions—including Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text Translation, Text-to-Speech (TTS), and Optical Character Recognition (OCR)—to CRIS-managed platforms like the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad. This move will enable users to access services in 22 Indian languages.

Leaders Highlight Impact on Public Access

BHASHINI CEO Amitabh Nag stated that this collaboration will change how millions of people use railway services, ensuring that language does not block access to essential public utilities. CRIS MD G.V.L. Satya Kumar emphasized that the initiative will bring greater accessibility, transparency, and efficiency through inclusive, AI-powered features.

Multilingual Chatbots and Interfaces Planned

Key areas of development under the MoU include:

  • Multilingual chatbots and voice assistants
  • Over-the-counter interfaces for railway enquiries
  • Scalable deployment across websites, mobile apps, kiosks, and call centers
  • Real-time speech interaction support in Indian languages

Cloud and on-premise infrastructure will support the implementation, and technical workshops and pilot projects will begin soon.

Boost to Digital India Vision

This collaboration represents a significant milestone in India’s efforts toward inclusive digital transformation, aligning with the broader goals of the Digital India initiative and reinforcing India’s global leadership in language AI.
