V Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO, shared that 10 of the organization’s satellites are working to ensure the security of India. He emphasized the importance of satellite technology to monitor the country’s coastline and maintain national safety, stating that these technologies are crucial for achieving security goals.
Impact Across Various Sectors
Narayanan spoke during the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the Central Agricultural University in Agartala, mentioning that ISRO’s satellites help in areas like agriculture, education, health, weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, food security, and defense.

Role in Disaster Management
He also pointed out how satellites have improved disaster management, helping to save lives compared to the past when many people would die during disasters.
India’s Achievements in Space
Narayanan highlighted India’s leadership in the space sector, mentioning the Chandrayaan-1 mission, which discovered water on the Moon, and that India has launched 433 satellites for 34 countries.
Global Collaborations
He announced plans for a joint project between India and the U.S. to build a high-tech Earth-imaging satellite. He also noted that India has built satellites for G20 countries to monitor climate change.
India’s Growth in Space Technology
Narayanan reflected on how India was behind in satellite technology until 1975 but predicted that by India’s 100th independence anniversary, the country would be a global leader in space technology.
Support for Northeast India
He also mentioned that ISRO is supporting projects in India’s northeastern states. To raise awareness of space science, 100 students from each northeastern state will visit the ISRO Centre in Bengaluru.
