The Startup Maha Rathi Challenge is a flagship initiative under Startup MahaKumbh 2025, aimed at supporting and accelerating the growth of Indian startups. Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and backed by DPIIT, Startup India, and the National Startup Advisory Council, this challenge offers Rs 30 crore in funding, mentorship from top industry leaders, and networking opportunities with global investors.

This year, the challenge will focus on 11 key sectors, including AI & DeepTech, Biotechnology & Healthcare, Gaming & Sports, Fintech, AgriTech, Climate Tech, Defence & SpaceTech, Mobility, B2B & Precision Manufacturing, D2C (Direct-to-Consumer), and Incubators & Accelerators. The initiative is being supported by Avaana Capital, LetsVenture, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), IVCA, HDFC, and other key partners.

The Startup MahaKumbh event serves as a central platform for India’s startup ecosystem, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, incubators, accelerators, and industry leaders. Last year’s event saw over 48,500 business visitors, 1,300+ exhibitors, 300+ incubators and accelerators, and 200+ investors, including venture capitalists and angel investors. The event provides national-level visibility and networking opportunities for emerging startups.
Selected startups will benefit from sector-specific mentorship, the chance to pitch before 300+ investors, and funding opportunities at the Grand Jury event. Even startups that are not selected will receive a 3-month mentorship program through TiE chapters, ensuring continued support and growth.
Application Process & Timeline
- Applications Opened: February 26, 2025
- Deadline: March 7, 2025
- Virtual Jury Screening: March 15-25, 2025
- Live Pitching Finale: April 3-5, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi
To qualify, startups must be DPIIT-recognized, in their early or growth stages, and registered as a Private Limited Company, LLP, or Partnership Firm in India.

Funding & Prizes
- Minimum grant for Grand Jury round startups: Rs 1 lakh
- Top 2 startups per sector: Rs 10 lakh each
- Next 5 startups per sector: Rs 5 lakh each
- Additional 5 startups per sector: Rs 3 lakh each
During the launch event, Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the challenge’s role in achieving ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia highlighted its importance in strengthening India’s startup ecosystem and nurturing future industry disruptors.
