Tesla, the global leader in electric vehicles (EVs), is preparing to open its first showroom in India, located in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). According to The Times of India, the company has secured a 4,000-square-foot space on the ground floor of a commercial tower, marking a significant step towards its long-awaited entry into the Indian market.

Tesla has been eyeing India for years, but delays in its plans were caused by disagreements over import and manufacturing regulations. However, the recent posting of job openings in India has fueled speculation about the company’s imminent launch.

Tesla’s Mumbai Showroom

The BKC showroom will serve as a showcase for Tesla’s range of vehicles, allowing potential customers to view and experience the brand’s cars. Tesla has agreed to pay approximately Rs 900 per square foot in rent, which amounts to around Rs 35 lakh per month. The lease for this space is set to last for five years.

Expansion Plans: Second Showroom in Delhi

In addition to the Mumbai showroom, Tesla is reportedly planning to open a second showroom in Delhi’s Aerocity complex. This indicates the company’s commitment to establishing a strong presence in key Indian cities, further solidifying its expansion plans.

Tesla’s Hiring Surge in India

Tesla’s hiring activities in India also reflect its growing commitment to the market. Following a meeting between Elon Musk and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States, the company posted various full-time and part-time job openings in customer support, operations, and business roles, with positions available in Mumbai and Delhi. This strategic hiring move underscores Tesla’s plans to build its operational infrastructure in India, which is expected to accelerate the country’s EV adoption and provide consumers with more sustainable transportation options.

Tesla’s expansion into India is seen as a pivotal moment for the country’s EV market, potentially driving further growth in the sector and offering more choices to environmentally-conscious consumers.
