Starting this year, pilgrims planning to visit the Sabarimala shrine must book their visits online, as mandated by the Kerala government. This initiative aims to regulate the flow of devotees and ensure a smoother pilgrimage experience by capping daily attendance at 80,000 visitors.
No Spot Booking Allowed
The decision to enforce online booking was made during a review meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Devaswom Minister VN Vasavan confirmed that spot booking will not be permitted this season. Authorities will monitor compliance to ensure that only those with prior bookings are allowed entry. Additional parking arrangements have been established at Nilakkal and Erumeli to accommodate the expected crowds.
Enhanced Pilgrim Experience
The new online system will feature a virtual queue that allows pilgrims to select their travel routes at the time of booking. This flexibility aims to help devotees avoid congested areas and enhance their overall experience. Necessary facilities will also be available along the traditional forest path to Sabarimala.
Ongoing Infrastructure Improvements
To facilitate smooth access to the shrine, road repairs and renovations of guest houses are currently underway. The maintenance of Sabari Guest House is expected to be completed by October 31, while renovations at the Pranavam Guest House have already been finalized. Additionally, Vishudhi Sena personnel will undergo health checks and training to ensure the safety and comfort of the pilgrims during the pilgrimage season.
