Tata Motors has launched a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone for the company. This state-of-the-art facility will not only produce Tata vehicles but also manufacture the next generation of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) cars, which will be exported to international markets.
Inauguration Ceremony with Key Dignitaries
The grand inauguration event was attended by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, along with N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, and other key dignitaries. The plant is located in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, and is expected to generate approximately 5,000 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
Focus on Luxury and Electric Vehicles
According to N. Chandrasekaran, the new plant is designed to manufacture cars not only for the Indian market but also for global export. The production will focus on both luxury and electric vehicles, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly and high-end cars. This will be the first time Jaguar Land Rover cars are manufactured outside the UK, making it a landmark moment for Tata Motors and India’s automotive industry.
Investment and Job Creation
Tata Motors has committed an investment of ₹9,000 crore for this plant, which is projected to have an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The plant’s development will occur in phases, and the company aims to reach full production capacity within the next 5 to 7 years. The plant will generate 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, with a strong focus on hiring women, further contributing to the region’s workforce diversity.
Support from Tamil Nadu Government
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised Tata Motors for their continued contributions to the state’s manufacturing sector. He emphasised that Tamil Nadu has long been a hub for Tata Group companies and promised full support from the state government to ensure the plant’s success.

This new venture strengthens India’s position in the global automotive industry. With its focus on both local and international markets, the plant represents a significant step forward for Tata Motors, contributing to both economic growth and technological advancement in the region.
