Indian Railways continually enhances passenger comfort by expanding its network and upgrading train facilities. Recently, a new category of train coaches, known as M code, has been introduced. These coaches represent an evolution of the traditional AC-3 tier and offer enhanced amenities for a more comfortable journey.
Features of AC-3 Economy Coaches
The AC-3 economy coaches, introduced in 2021, incorporate several upgrades over the older AC-3 tier. These enhancements include:
Individual AC Ducts: Each seat has its own air conditioning duct.
Additional Facilities: Features like bottle stands, reading lights, and charging ports are available at every seat.
Increased Seating Capacity: The total number of seats is increased to 83, compared to 72 in the traditional AC-3 tier.
What is an M Coach?
The M code refers to the latest version of AC-3 economy coaches. They are equipped with modern amenities and improved design compared to their predecessors. These coaches are a recent addition and are currently featured in select trains.
Differences Between AC-3 Economy and AC-3 Tier
While both AC-3 economy and AC-3 tier coaches offer similar basic amenities, the AC-3 economy class provides additional comfort and convenience features. Notably:
Design and Facilities: AC-3 economy coaches have upgraded designs and additional facilities not present in AC-3 tier coaches.
Availability: AC-3 economy coaches are a new addition and are not found in trains that only feature AC-3 tier coaches.
The introduction of M code coaches signifies Indian Railways’ commitment to improving passenger experiences with enhanced comfort and modern amenities.
