Abu Dhabi Airports Report Record Passenger Numbers

Abu Dhabi’s airports achieved significant milestones in 2023, as reported by Abu Dhabi Airports and the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD). Here’s a breakdown of the key statistics:

Passenger Traffic Overview

  • Total Passengers: Abu Dhabi airports welcomed 22.4 million passengers in 2023.
  • Arrivals: Over 11.1 million arrivals were recorded.
  • Departures: Approximately 11.3 million departures were registered.

Origin of Passengers

  • Top Arrival Destination: The Indian subcontinent led with 3.2 million arrivals, followed by Western Europe (1.9 million), Asia (1.7 million), GCC countries (1.6 million), and East Asia (822,777).
  • Top Departure Destination: The Indian subcontinent also led departures with around 3.5 million travelers, followed by South America (1.9 million), Asia (1.7 million), and GCC countries (1.6 million).

Airport-Specific Data

  • Al Ain International Airport: Saw 51,067 arrivals and 43,945 departures, with 1,763 transits and 1,011 through Zayed International Airport.
  • Zayed International Airport: Experienced a 27.8% growth in flights, totaling 141,225 flights in 2023 compared to 110,536 in 2022.
  • Al Ain International Airport Flights: Handled 8,409 flights in 2023, up from 7,598 in 2022.

Cargo Traffic

  • Imports: 319,993 tonnes, primarily from Asia (138,187 tonnes).
  • Exports: 238,644 tonnes, led by Western Europe (98,089 tonnes).
  • Al Ain International Airport Cargo: Exported 1,263 tonnes and imported 501 tonnes in 2023.

Abu Dhabi Airports emphasized that the report includes data from Al Bateen Executive Airport, providing a comprehensive overview of the emirate’s aviation sector performance in 2023.
