Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is set to visit India on February 7 and 8, with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its opportunities in the country. This annual visit reflects Microsoft’s strong commitment to using technology to create more opportunities in India.

In a recent email, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, highlighted the crucial role of AI in shaping India’s tech landscape. The email emphasised how AI is transforming India and South Asia into one of the most exciting markets for technology.

This visit follows talks in June 2023 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with tech leaders like Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai in the US. The discussions focused on how technology, especially AI, can improve the lives of Indians. Microsoft’s subsequent statement reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth of Indian technology.

Sources suggest that Nadella will meet founders of Indian AI startups during his visit. While the startups haven’t been individually confirmed, this engagement signals Microsoft’s interest in India’s growing AI industry. In 2023, Microsoft and OpenAI joined forces. Nadella outlined plans for AI integration across Microsoft’s apps, introducing the AI assistant ‘Copilot’ powered by OpenAI’s technology. Integrating Bing search into ChatGPT positioned Microsoft to compete with Google.

In November 2023, OpenAI’s CEO was dismissed, leading to the integration of OpenAI employees into Microsoft’s new advanced AI research team. This move solidified Microsoft’s commitment to advancing AI research. As AI adoption grows, Microsoft expects a 15 percent increase in revenues for its 2024 fiscal year, surpassing the overall tech sector’s growth. This shows Microsoft’s key role in driving AI innovation in India.

As Nadella focuses on India’s AI landscape during this visit, it marks a crucial step in Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to shaping the future of technology in the region.
