In a ground-breaking endeavor, the ‘Transplant Games,’ orchestrated under the leadership of the Heart Care Foundation, is poised to make its mark in Kochi on December 9, 2023. This event is not just a competition; it’s a vibrant celebration of life, a tribute to organ donors, and a spirited campaign to illuminate the critical role of organ transplantation. The stage for various competitions is set at illustrious venues such as the JLN Stadium, Regional Sports Center, and Lulu Mall.

The pinnacle of the Transplant Games on December 9 will witness the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Shri. A N Shamseer, Hon’ble Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. The concluding ceremony promises to be a grand affair in the Kochi Regional Sports Centre.

Marking a historic first in Kerala, this event provides a unique platform for organ donors, recipients, and the cadaveric families to unite, nurturing a strong sense of community and mutual support.

Scheduled for December 9, participants from across the nation will engage in diverse events, including an invigorating 5-kilometer race, extending an open invitation to individuals from all walks of life to partake in this poignant celebration.

Adding to the fervor, a Cyclothon organized by the Liver Care Foundation (LIFOK), Aster Medicity, and Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) had been an integral part of the festivities. Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram, Chairman of the Heart Care Foundation, honored participants who underwent organ transplants and those actively engaged in the cycling event.

In a spirited football match held on November 5 between the Liver Foundation of Kerala (LIFOK) and Ernakulam Press Club, ended with an impressive score line. This friendly match, played in a spirit of camaraderie, served as a captivating prelude to the upcoming Transplant Games.

As part of the Transplant Games promotion, a dynamic flash mob was orchestrated on November 12 to underscore the profound significance of organ donation. This campaign strategically aimed to reach the wider public, setting the stage for the main event on December 9.

On Chirldren’s Day, the promotional event took a heartwarming turn as children who had undergone organ transplants revelled in a Water Metro journey. This extraordinary event featured children like Ish Mehreen (9), Adil Muhammad (13), Parvathi Shinu (9), and Henok Harshan (6), alongside Ann Maria (9) and Anjali (23), who underwent organ transplantation. The journey served as a powerful symbol of triumph over organ transplants, intending to disseminate awareness about organ donation.

Dr. Nobil Gracious, the Executive Director of K-SOTTO (Kerala Society of Organ Transplantation and Tissue Transplantation Organization), has played a pivotal role in public awareness programs, showcasing the positive impact of organ donation. K-SOTTO endeavors to establish a connection between the community and transplant recipients, urging more individuals to actively support and participate in organ donation initiatives.

In a splendid show of solidarity, celebrities such as I M Vijayan, Kunchako Boban, Major Ravi, Meenakshi Raveendran, George Kora, and other notable figures, alongside the resilient real-life warriors, have joined in to share their enthusiasm and best wishes for this impactful event.

The jerseys of the Transplant Games, led by the Heart Care Foundation, were presented by the Mayor of Kochi, Adv. M. Anilkumar, along with unveiling of medals to be presented for the winners. The ceremony was facilitated by K. Chandran Pillai, the Chairman of GCDA.

The Transplant Games stand as more than just a competition; they are a jubilant celebration of life, resilience, and the profound impact of organ donation on individuals. As the event unfolds in Kochi, it not only bears witness to the transformative power of organ transplantation but also serves as a resounding call to action for increased community involvement in this noble cause.
