Launching a prominent upgrade to its operating system, tech giant Apple has unveiled macOS Sonoma in which the new feature will notify users if the device detects any liquid in the Type-C ports of the Mac devices.

9to5Mac reports that macOS Sonoma 14.1 includes “liquiddetectiond” which alerts users when the computer is exposed to liquids. If detected, users are alerted to unplug devices, preventing liquid damage. According to reports, Apple has also developed Liquid Contact Indicators (LCIs) for visual liquid exposure assessment.

However, notably, Apple’s limited warranty pulls itself out from any liquid damage, even for water-resistant products like the iPhone, Apple Watch, and some AirPods models.

Talking about other features, similar to iPhone, Mac users can now designate their favourite songs, albums, and playlist in their music apps. In addition, a new feature will allow checking the AppleCare+ status of their Mac and connected AirPods directly from System Settings. As per the company, this feature simplifies the process of verifying your device’s coverage and expiration date.

Moreover, macOS Sanoma 14.1 addresses several bugs, such as one that could prevent encrypted external drives from mounting and another that could reset the System Services settings within Location Services.

To update to macOS Sonoma 14.1, go to System Settings and click on ‘Software Update.’ If the update is available, it will be listed under ‘Updates Available.’ Click on the update and then select “Download and Install.” Reportedly, this update is accessible to all eligible Macs and is free to download and install.

The macOS 14 SDK provides support to develop apps for Mac computers running Sonoma 14. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 15 RC, available from the Mac App Store.
