Narendra Modi Launches 5G Labs in IMC

IMC will introduce ‘Aspire’, a startup programme that will lay emphasis on igniting the future of entrepreneurship growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7th Edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 on October 27, which is taking place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. In the event, he has also launched 5G use-case labs in 100 academic institutions, aimed to foster academia-startup-industry collaboration, building competencies and making India ready for 6G technology.

According to reports, this year, IMC will introduce ‘Aspire’, a startup programme that will lay emphasis on igniting the future of entrepreneurship growth among young innovators and industry delegates in the telecom and other digital domains.

With the theme ‘Global Digital Innovation,’ IMC 2023 aims to strengthen India’s position as a developer, manufacturer and exporter of technologies including 5G, 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI). The event focuses on taking hold of 5G technology’s potential by fostering application development tailored to India’s specific needs and global requirements.

The Prime Minister announced that 5G Use Case Labs will empower the youth of India to dream big and make it a reality. Narendra Modi pointed out that through this, the youth can surprise the country with their own strength, interests and entrepreneurial ideas.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that India is now going to lead the world in 6G. “India is moving fast on 6G. By increasing internet speed, students should be able to connect online with teachers, doctors and patients without any hindrance. Farmers should be able to acquire and implement new knowledge related to agriculture. Internet speed should be able to make people’s lives easier,” he said.

Signifying India’s potential in manufacturing, the Prime Minister said that India has become a world power in mobile and electronics manufacturing exports. According to him, India exports electronics worth two lakh crore. Moreover, he added Google to manufacture Pixel phones in India. Earlier, Samsung Fold 5 and Apple iPhone 15 have started manufacturing in India. If there is to be a boom in the field of hardware and software in India, semiconductors are needed. 80 thousand crores PLI scheme announced for semiconductor industry.

In the virtual address, the PM said global companies continue to invest in semiconductor manufacturing in India. Additionally, the Prime Minister urged that internet-based technology should reach everyone in the country.
