Exploring Visa Options After Termination

If you’re working in a Dubai-based firm and facing redundancy, you may be wondering about the timeline for leaving the country and if it’s possible to get a visit visa without exiting. Let’s break down the key information based on UAE regulations to help you understand your options.

Cancelling Work Permits and Residency Visas

As an employee of a mainland firm in Dubai, the cancellation of your work permit is the responsibility of your employer. They must follow specific procedures outlined by the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MoHRE), which include submitting an application, providing required data and documents, paying fines if applicable, and acknowledging your entitlements.

Residency visa cancellation follows the cancellation of your work permit. After this, you typically have a grace period of up to 60 days to reside in the UAE. During this time, you can consider alternative options to change your residency status, such as obtaining a new residency visa sponsored by a prospective employer, a family member, or self-sponsoring based on investments or profession.

Visit Visa/Tourist Visa as an Alternative

If you prefer not to leave the UAE after your residency visa is cancelled, you have the option to apply for a visit visa or a tourist visa. These visas allow you to legally stay in the country while exploring new opportunities or making necessary arrangements.

Seeking Guidance

It’s important to note that individual circumstances may vary, and it’s advisable to seek specific advice from the General Directorate of Residency & Foreigners Affairs – Dubai. They can provide guidance on obtaining a visit visa or tourist visa without exiting the UAE after the cancellation of your residency visa.

Navigating Redundancy and Residency

Understanding the steps involved and the available options during redundancy is crucial to comply with UAE regulations and maintain your legal residency status. By following the proper procedures and seeking guidance when needed, you can navigate this period of transition and make informed decisions about your visa status in the UAE.
