Akasa Air Ramping Up Recruitment

Amid news of layoffs, Indian low-cost airline Akasa Air has announced that it will be recruiting nearly 1,000 people by the end of March 2024. It will help in dispelling the prevailing pessimism in the aviation sector. The company also planned to increase the total number of employees to 3,000 during this period. CEO Vinay Dubey said the airline continues to expand its flights and routes. The company also plans to launch international services by the end of this year. Overseas destinations are still being finalized.

In an interview to PTI, Akasa Vinay Dubey had said that the airline would place a large order for the aircraft by the end of this year. It has ordered 72 ‘Boeing 737’ Max aircraft. 19 of them are already in the fleet. The 20th aircraft will be inducted in April. After which we will be eligible for overseas flight operations. In the next financial year, the carrier aims to add 9 more aircraft. This will take the total fleet size to 28. Delivery of all aircrafts is expected to be completed by early 2027.

Akasa Air, which bills itself as the country’s newest budget airline, started operations on August 7, 2022. Currently, 110 daily flights are operated to 17 domestic destinations. According to the latest official data, in February, Akasa Air carried 3.61 lakh passengers. Its domestic market share is 3 percent and on-time performance (OTP) is 87 percent.
