Aatmanirbhar Bharat: World’s first 200-meter-long Bamboo Crash Barrier ‘Bahu Balli’ installed on Vani-Warora Highway
An amazing effort in promoting Aatmanirbhar Bharat has been done by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The government has constructed a 200-meter-long Bamboo Crash Barrier on Maharashtra’s Vani-Warora Highway. ‘Bahu Balli’ is the name given to this Bamboo Crash Barrier. The route links the state’s districts of Chandrapur and Yavatmal. In a tweet, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the construction of the world’s first 200-meter-long Bamboo Crash Barrier, which has been built on the Vani-Warora Highway, was an exceptional success towards reaching Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Minister Nitin Gadkari, took to Twitter on March 4th to promote a one-of-a-kind “world’s first” programme in Maharashtra.
This barrier is made of Bambusa Balcoa bamboo that has been treated with creosote oil and covered with recycled High-Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE). The ‘Bahu Balli’ was rigorously tested before installation at different government-run institutes, including Indore’s Pithampur-based National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX). It received a Class 1 rating at the Fire Rating Test at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The Indian Road Congress has also formally acknowledged the Bamboo Crash Barrier. Having the second-largest road network in the world, India is focusing on various alternatives to reduce the carbon footprint in the sector.
The barrier has replaced steel while simultaneously addressing environmental issues. The accomplishment is significant for both the bamboo sector and the country as a whole. This crash barrier is an excellent alternative to steel and tackles environmental issues as well as their consequences. It is also a rural and agricultural-friendly sector, making it an even more significant milestone. Bamboo barriers have a recycling value of 50-70 percent, but steel barriers have a value of 30-50 percent.
Vehicles going via the Vani-Warora Highway will notice a fresh and greener aspect over the 200-metre length. The traditional steel barriers built on the roadway have been replaced by a bamboo crash barrier. Minister Gadkari tweeted about this “amazing feat,” claiming that it is the first of its kind in the world. Nitin Gadkari remarked that the country is making tremendous progress towards “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” with this.
