According to a government announcement , Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), will open India’s first lithium cell manufacturing facility in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, tomorrow.

With a 165 crore rupee investment, Chennai-based Munoth Industries Limited established the plant. It is situated in one of the two electronics industrial clusters that Prime Minister Narendra Modi established in the temple town in 2015.

The factory now has a 270 Mwh installed capacity and can generate 20,000 10Ah cells per day. According to the statement, these cells are employed in power banks and have a capacity that is almost 60% greater than India’s current needs. Additionally, cells for various consumer gadgets including mobile phones, hearables, and wearables will be made.
