The world’s top producer, user, and second-largest exporter of sugar is now India. Over 5,000 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane were produced in the nation during the sugar season of 2021–2022, of which 3,574 LMT were crushed by sugar mills to generate 394 LMT of sugar (sucrose).
