A newly launched burger restaurant in California’s Silicon Valley is drawing attention for using robots to prepare food in record time. Operated by ABB Robotics, the eatery—named BurgerBots—uses two high-speed robots that assemble and finish burgers in just 27 seconds.
Fast, precise, and efficient
The robotic system includes a Flexpicker that identifies orders via QR codes and adds toppings like cheese, lettuce, onions, and sauces. A second robot, YuMi, completes the burger and ensures quality presentation. Despite the fully automated kitchen, human staff still serve the food to customers.

Founder’s vision for automation
BurgerBots founder Elizabeth Truong said the goal is to bring consistency and transparency to food service. She emphasized that the robotic system improves cost control and decision-making for restaurant owners.
Robots as co-workers, not replacements
Though automation is rising, the restaurant integrates humans in customer-facing roles. ABB Robotics president Marc Segura highlighted that a majority in the hospitality industry are open to robotics handling repetitive tasks.
Changing the future of restaurants
Truong believes this model signals a broader trend. She predicts most restaurants will include some form of automation within the next five years, making robot-assisted kitchens a new standard rather than a novelty.
