SiriNor, a deeptech aerospace startup based in India and Norway, has successfully completed the ground test of its all-electric jet engine in Pune. This marks an important step towards cleaner aviation.

Test Results and Technology Achievement

The engine passed NASA’s Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6) test, showing it can perform well for commercial use. It exceeded expectations by reaching over 40,000 RPM and producing 10 kgf of thrust, proving its potential for real-world applications.

Target Market and Future Plans

SiriNor aims to enter the growing jet engine market, which is expected to be worth over USD 100 billion by 2030. The engine is versatile, able to work with batteries or hydrogen fuel cells, and can be used in drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), regional aircraft, and seaplanes, serving both civilian and defense sectors.

Phased Approach to Commercialization

SiriNor plans to roll out its engine for UAVs by mid-2026, with further expansion into seaplanes and ground-effect vehicles by 2027. The final phase will focus on regional and civil aircraft, with plans for certification by 2030. This step-by-step approach allows the company to test and perfect its technology.

Investments and Partnerships

SiriNor has raised over USD 20 million from investors, including Shell E4 and DCM Shriram. The company plans to raise another USD 5 million in 2025 to speed up commercialization. It has also signed key partnerships, including with Genser Aerospace to integrate the engine into their Light Business Programme.

Cost Benefits and Flexibility

The electric jet engine reduces manufacturing costs by 30% and maintenance by 40%. Its flexible design allows easier adoption by both new and established aviation manufacturers.

Team and Vision

SiriNor’s leadership, including CEO Ivar Aune and co-founder Abhijeet Inamdar, credited their team’s hard work for this achievement. They emphasized that the engine’s flexibility is key to revolutionizing the future of electric aviation and contributing to India’s “Make-in-India” initiative.

SiriNor’s electric jet engine is a major advancement in clean aviation. With its strong investment backing and phased commercialization plan, the company is well-positioned to lead in the sustainable aerospace sector.
