Scootev, a startup based in Bengaluru, has become a big name in the electric mobility world, now valued at Rs 100 crore. What makes Scootev stand out is its founders and leaders—people who were once gig workers themselves, like delivery drivers and support staff. Led by Murad Khan, Scootev is showing that you don’t need Ivy League degrees or billion-dollar investors to build a successful business. It’s all about opportunity, hard work, and giving people a chance to rise.

Building a Startup from Scratch

Unlike most startups that are built by corporate elites or investors, Scootev is powered by people who’ve worked their way up from being gig workers on the streets of Bengaluru. From delivery riders to top-level managers, everyone at Scootev has walked the same tough path, and now they lead a company worth Rs 100 crore.

No Degrees, Just Hard Work

While many startups care about fancy degrees and tech credentials, Scootev cares about one thing: hustle. The company doesn’t look for people with MBAs—it looks for people with potential and a strong work ethic. Riders at Scootev can start at the bottom and climb the ladder to management and strategic roles, all without a formal education. This is a huge shift from the usual gig work, where most people feel stuck in low-paying, short-term jobs.

Empowering Riders: More Than Just Employees

Scootev currently has a fleet of over 3,000 e-bikes, providing vital delivery services across Bengaluru. But these aren’t just bikes—they represent a real chance for gig workers to own a part of the company’s success. Riders at Scootev aren’t just employees; they have a voice in important decisions, help onboard new team members, and mentor others. This sense of ownership and responsibility is what makes Scootev’s model unique.

Looking Ahead: Growth with Focus on People

With plans to expand its fleet and improve technology, Scootev is looking to grow even further. But the company’s focus remains on its people. They plan to invest in leadership programs, new electric vehicle technology, and creating spaces where riders can rest and connect. Murad Khan’s goal is to make Scootev not just a leader in electric mobility, but a role model for gig-worker-led companies across different sectors.

Changing the Startup Game in India

Scootev is challenging the usual idea of what makes a startup successful in India. Most companies look for investors and founders with business degrees, but Scootev’s founders have built their business through hard work and understanding the needs of gig workers. Their story shows that innovation can come from the ground up, and that even workers in low-paying jobs can become leaders with the right support.

Scootev is more than just a delivery service—it’s about creating opportunities and building a future where anyone, regardless of background, can succeed. It’s proof that grassroots leadership can lead to big things, and sometimes, the most powerful businesses come from the most unexpected places.
