Nick Hague: Experienced NASA Astronaut and Mission Commander
Nick Hague, a U.S. Space Force Colonel, was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in astronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from MIT. With a deep passion for exploration inspired by science fiction, Hague grew up watching Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who. His experience in past ISS missions and leadership as the commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission were essential in ensuring the safe return of the crew.
Aleksandr Gorbunov: Russian Cosmonaut and Aerospace Engineer
Aleksandr Gorbunov, a Russian cosmonaut from Zheleznogorsk, specializes in aerospace engineering. He studied spacecraft and upper-stage engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute and has additional training in operating and repairing aircraft and helicopters. Unlike Hague, this was Gorbunov’s first spaceflight, making his role in the mission a significant milestone in his career. His technical expertise was valuable in ensuring a smooth mission execution.
Both astronauts contributed to the mission’s success, further strengthening NASA-Roscosmos collaboration in space exploration. Their safe return marks another milestone in advancing human spaceflight and preparing for future missions beyond Earth’s orbit.
