Kerala’s Legacy in Global Trade
Kerala has a long history of global trade dating back to the ancient Muziris port, which connected India with Rome, Egypt, and China. Today, Vizhinjam Port is continuing this legacy, positioning India at the center of global commerce.
Vizhinjam Port
The Adani Group’s journey with Vizhinjam began in 2015 under the late Oommen Chandy’s leadership. Now, under Chief Minister Vijayan, the port is becoming a reality. Located along the world’s busiest shipping lanes, Vizhinjam has already made history by docking the largest container vessel ever to reach Indian shores, with a 24,000-container capacity.
The Adani Group has invested ₹5,000 crore in Vizhinjam so far and has committed an additional ₹20,000 crore. The goal is to establish India’s first transshipment hub and make Vizhinjam the largest in the region.
Expanding Infrastructure in Kerala
Apart from Vizhinjam, the Adani Group has major expansion plans in Kerala, including:
Trivandrum International Airport Expansion: Passenger capacity will be increased from 4.5 million to 12 million with a ₹5,500 crore investment.
Logistics and E-Commerce Hub in Kochi: A new hub will be developed to boost trade and connectivity.
Increased Cement Production: Cement capacity in Kochi will be expanded to support infrastructure development.
₹30,000 Crore Investment for the Next Five Years
In total, the Adani Group will invest ₹30,000 crore in Kerala over the next five years. Karan Adani reiterated the company’s commitment to nation-building, quoting Chairman Gautam Adani: “The infrastructure sector is all about building assets for the nation and nation-building.”
Kerala’s development journey is gaining momentum, and the Adani Group is proud to be a part of its growth story.
