Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells dairy products under the renowned Amul brand, announced plans to invest Rs 600 crore to establish an integrated dairy plant in Kolkata. This plant will house the world’s largest curd manufacturing facility, marking a significant expansion in Amul’s operations. The announcement was made during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which concluded on Thursday.

A Massive Investment and Capacity

The state-of-the-art dairy plant will be set up at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, near Kolkata, with a total investment of Rs 600 crore. The facility will have the capacity to produce 10 lakh kilograms of curd per day, making it the largest curd production unit in the world. Additionally, the plant will process 15 lakh litres of milk daily, further strengthening Amul’s presence in the region.

Catering to Growing Demand

GCMMF’s Managing Director, Jayen Mehta, emphasized the growing demand for curd in Kolkata and the surrounding areas. Curd, particularly popular varieties like tok doi and mishti doi, is a staple in Bengal’s diet, and the new plant is designed to meet the increasing local demand.

Amul’s Strong Presence in Bengal

Amul is already the largest fresh milk brand in Bengal, with daily sales exceeding 10 lakh litres. The company has a robust milk procurement network spanning 14 districts in Bengal, involving over 1.2 lakh women milk producers. This strong foundation enables Amul to support local communities and provide fresh dairy products to consumers across the state.

This new investment is a part of Amul’s continued commitment to strengthening its position in the dairy market and enhancing its production capabilities to meet consumer needs.
