Indian Railways has introduced the Intelligent Track Monitoring System (ITMS), a cutting-edge solution designed to monitor critical track conditions at speeds ranging from 20 to 200 km/h. Equipped with laser sensors, high-speed cameras, accelerometers, and GPS, the ITMS enables real-time, contactless data collection, ensuring enhanced safety and reliability.
Seamless Integration with Track Management System (TMS)
ITMS works seamlessly with the Railways’ existing Track Management System (TMS), providing immediate alerts via SMS and email in case of track defects. This integration allows for quick responses to ensure safe rail operations.
Indian Railways’ Investment in ITMS Vehicles
Indian Railways is set to invest Rs 180 crore in ITMS vehicles across all 17 railway zones. Currently, seven ITMS vehicles are operational, with plans to introduce 10 more. Each vehicle costs approximately Rs 18 crore, marking a significant investment in track safety and monitoring technology.
Advanced Data Collection for Real-Time Monitoring
The ITMS relies on advanced sensors and cameras for precise data collection and sends instant updates about defects. Its onboard edge servers process data in real time, enabling swift action and enhancing the overall efficiency of the railway system.
Collaboration with ADJ Engineering
The development of ITMS vehicles is in collaboration with ADJ Engineering, led by Manish Pandey. ADJ Engineering has previously contributed to the creation of other advanced systems like the Rail Inspection System and Ultrasonic Rail Testing System, further strengthening the technological backbone of Indian Railways.
This advanced track monitoring technology represents a major step forward in ensuring the safety and reliability of India’s vast railway network.
